Traditional myth treats Prometheus as the rebellious seeker of advancement for humankind. Seeking to help man, Prometheus steals fire from the gods to return to Earth. For this, he is punished for the greater part of eternity to an endless cycle of suffering. This piece considers Prometheus not just as man of fire as we have seen his story so many times told, but as one who wishes to go beyond mere fire and harness a power so much greater: the sun itself. Removed from its original context among primitive man, this re-imagined story of Prometheus is set in a more modern age. Here we see the story of a man who wants to steal the warmth of the sun so badly that it leads him to his oblivion; his cycle of suffering ends with him becoming one with the universe.
